Blu-ray is the name of the newest optical disc format developed to enable recording, rewriting and playback of high-definition video (HD), as well as storing large amounts of data. Offering five times the storage space of a traditional DVD and holding up to 25GB on a single-layer disc, 50GB on a dual-layer disc, blu-ray is taking over the DVD market as it offers users an extraordinary HD experience.

It is currently supported by numerous electronic devices such as recording companies, video games, and of course the movie industry. There are currently six major movie studios that are releasing all their new movies using this technology. It is expected that within a few years the old DVD format will be obsolete, so don’t be left out of this unique experience. Be the first to share with your friends the newest home movie experience available today.

Blu-ray is the latest technology and is quickly taking over the DVD industry. If you have a DVD player it will more than likely be obsolete in a few years. Just like the VHS players today, they will still be usable but harder to find the newest releases in that format. However,  if you have a blu-ray player then you probbaly are looking for  some movies to watch on it. If you don’t have a player you should get one and be part of the newest and best home viewing experience.

Did you also know you could copy and convert technology  formats. It is easy and will keep the HD quality for a long time.

The Blu-ray history goes back to 2000 where the first blu-ray disc prototypes were released and were called DVR Blue. Sony, along with Panasonic, was the one that came up with the idea and released the prototype. In 2002, the DVR Blue was shortened to Blu-ray and that is what it is called today.

In 2003, the recorders, now known as players hit the consumer market in Japan. Since there was not any movies yet available for the player the Japanese market did not take to it well, therefore Sony started the process of a different release manner. In 2006 the first Blu-ray DVD movie  was released and many more have followed. Although there was some controversy as to whether the Blu-ray would have competition by the HD DVD the movie studios eliminated any further competition in January of 2008 where the final hold out (Warner Brothers) announce that all the new releases would be in Blu-ray.

Blu-ray allows for the ultimate home movie experience. Blu-ray discs are made using a “Blue” technically violet laser where conventional DVDs or CDs use infrared. Blu-ray technology uses a shorter wavelength which makes it possible to store more information and allows for the optical effects to be enhanced. They also use hard coating technology that benefits with less scratching and better durability making it longer lasting.

Now the Blu-ray player is the hottest item on the market.
